Bleeding Disorders: Hemorrhagic Diatheses

چکیده
Before discussing these specific bleeding disorders, it is helpful to review normal hemostasis ( Chapter 4 ) and the common laboratory tests used in the evaluation of a bleeding diathesis. It should be recalled from the discussion in Chapter 4 that the normal hemostatic response involves the blood vessel wall, the platelets, and the clotting cascade. Tests used to evaluate different aspects of hemostasis are the following:

متن کاملNeuraxial techniques in obstetric and non-obstetric patients with common bleeding diatheses.
BACKGROUND There are few data in the literature regarding the safety of neuraxial techniques in patients with the most common bleeding diatheses, including hemophilia, von Willebrand's disease (vWD), and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Neuraxial techniques are not widely used in these populations because of concerns of potential hemorrhagic and/or subsequent neurologic complications....
متن کاملWhat Benjamin Babington, William Osler, Frederick Weber, and Henri Rendu did not know.
Epistaxis is a reasonably common and usually minor condition, although in rare cases it can be severe and life threatening. Benjamin Guy Babington described a family with individual members in five generations who had commonly and at times severe epistaxis, and he recognized this as an inherited epistaxis syndrome [1]. Diagnostic acuity of the time was limited, leading to confusion between fami...
متن کاملEffect of Methylxanthines on Blood Coagulation
Nonnenbruch and Szysaka quoted by Scherf and Schlackman (1946), demonstrated that intravenous injection of Theophylline Ethylenediamine increased the coagulability of blood in the rabits to a marked degree. Later on, other workers, notably Addicks and Meissner, again quoted by the same authors confirmed these observations both in animals and man, and as a result of these findings the drug was r...
